LCL offers free, confidential peer and professional support to judges, lawyers. law students, other legal professionals, and their families on any issue that causes stress or distress. This includes mental health issues like depression and anxiety, substance and compulsive behavior challenges, and those life challenges like family, career, and financial issues that impact us personally and professionally. This includes up to four free counseling sessions statewide as well as appropriate referrals and follow-up, peer support, and support groups.
LCL provides a vast menu of CLE and other educational programs on impairment and well-being topics. Ultimately, our work is public service for legal professionals, their clients, and the profession. Your donation to LCL will support these critical services and allow us to respond to immediate needs as well as trends in the profession. Each year, LCL helps hundreds of people and the numbers keep increasing. Some called us directly and others were referred by concerned friends, colleagues and family members. But we measure success one legal professional or family member at a time. One lawyer told us "you saved my life by being there when I had given up hope. The confidential, caring support I received during my crisis made a difference.”
The growth in the number of people helped by LCL is gratifying, but the reality is that we reach only a fraction of those who need help. Traumatic events that affect our colleagues, reports of suicides in our community, and misconduct borne of mental illness and addiction show that LCL is needed as never before. LCL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and we depend on contributions to maintain our services.
