Lao Advancement Organization of America

LAO America builds upon the strengths and traditions of Lao culture to give Lao families the tools needed to succeed in their new homeland.

Lao America provides services to all generations of the ethnic Lao community and is welcoming to people from different cultural communities. In addition to ethnic Lao people, Hmong youth and elders participate in Lao America programs.

Youth Programs include homework assistance, Lao language instruction, Lao dance instruction, introduction to higher education, recreational activities, parent education and an Urban 4-H program.

Health Education and Prevention Programs -- reach youth and adults with important preventive health information. Exercise and nutrition classes are offered, as well as the Lao Minnesota Soccer Organization (LMSO).

The Elders Program improves health, reduces isolation and increase knowledge of the community.

Civic Engagement and Community Empowerment Programs -- Citizenship education and English as a Second Language classes

The Community Empowerment Programs also provide referrals and advocacy for individuals and families needing assistance in negotiating social services, legal, educational and other complex systems.

The Computer Lab and Lao Cultural Center also provide places to gather and learn.
