Kindred Spirits Rescue

Greetings! If you aren’t familiar with Kindred Spirits Rescue, allow us to introduce ourselves. Kindred Spirits Rescue was founded in 2024 by Theresa and Hailey. These two like minds were gravely concerned for the wellbeing of central Minnesota’s cats. Resources in the central Minnesota area are few and far between when it comes to options for abandoned or stray cats. We are one of the only organizations in central Minnesota that is able to provide care to kittens that require bottle feeding. We’ve also started focusing on trap-neuter-release programs for Little Falls community cats. This helps to reduce the suffering of some of the most vulnerable groups of cats in our area. We are completely funded by our community and are recognized as a non-profit organization. Since our founding in 2024, we have found loving homes for over 160 cats. We are a completely volunteer run organization. Any funds donated will directly benefit the cats in our care and allow us to provide care for animals that have no safety net. 

2025 has been a year of growth for Kindred Spirits Rescue! We have rehabilitated and found loving families for over 100 cats. This far exceeds the goal we had set for ourselves at the end of 2024. We are humbled, exhausted, and thrilled about the work we’ve done this past year!

Our hope for this year is to use funds to improve the lives of cats in our care. We are preparing to find a brick and mortar facility. In this transition, we will need to update our current cat housing systems. This update will increase our capacity, increase the health and safety of cats in our care, and give us a space to continue to build our community involvement. We will continue to love and care for cats in need. Any extra funds raised will help us say “yes” to cats that have no other place to go.

Here are a few of the items we hope to be able to spend funds on:

Portals: This is a specialized cat housing update that will allow us to update kennels that we already have to allow cats at least 12 square feet of space. This will greatly improve quality of life and allow more safety when cleaning and disinfecting living spaces. Portals cost $157 each. We need 8 to update our stainless steel kennels. These will last a lifetime of use!

Feral cat dens: These greatly reduce stress of unsocialized cats. We use this type of kennel to transfer cats out of live traps. These are reusable and very important as they give cats a safe place to retreat to when stressed. They are easily disinfected and reused. We currently only have one and would love to have one for every cat to use. These also help us handle unsocialized cats in a safe, low-stress manner. Feral cat dens cost $110 each. 

Stainless steel litter boxes: We are hoping to gradually move towards using stainless steel litter boxes instead of plastic. Plastic is difficult to completely disinfect, creates waste, and hard to clean. Stainless steel litter boxes will be more cost effective, increase safety, and allow us to clean faster. Cleaner litter boxes means happier cats! Stainless steel litter boxes cost about $40.

Quiet close latches: We would like to outfit our stainless steel kennels with quiet close hinges. This may sound silly, but stainless steel can be very loud when closing or opening doors. Cats much prefer peace and quiet. We would need 8 quiet close cage pieces, which would cost about $40 each.
