Our Mission.

The Kind Mind Movement is an inclusive community dedicated to revolutionizing how college students view mental health advocacy. We strive to cultivate long-lasting connections, reimagine newfound independence, and encourage holistic wellbeing through acts of kindness.

Our Story.

The Kind Mind Movement was founded in March 2020 by five University of Minnesota undergraduate students when the world was quickly evolving. Even though the mental health of college students was a growing concern before COVID-19, we saw the first-hand impact on how the pandemic escalated and amplified these challenges.

There are many challenges that we continue to see students face. First, professional care is not always accessible to students. Many clinics and therapists in the Twin Cities are waitlisting prospective patients due to large demand. Second, there are a handful of students that did not have the opportunity to find their communities on campus due to the pandemic. Lastly, newfound independence is exciting and scary. It takes time to get into a rhythm of, well, adulting.

Sometimes you need an additional support system cheering you on through some of these challenges—that's where The Kind Mind Movement thrives. Our formula is simple: create long-lasting companionship, show genuine compassion, and build inclusive communities. It really is that simple—every interaction we have should stem from kindness.

In August 2021, The Kind Mind Movement was approved tax-exemption status by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service which make donations tax deductible retroactively beginning March 21, 2020 (EIN: 85-0610980).

In Fall 2021, The Kind Mind Movement expanded to the University of Minnesota as a student organization and had the opportunity to welcome students back in-person. We are incredibly proud of our presence on campus and see lots of opportunity to grow our programs over the next few years.

Our Impact.

We believe kindness is at the very core of everything we do. From random acts of kindness to targeting aspects of holistic wellbeing, we plan events students can participate in. We attended ExploreU, a student organization fair for incoming students, at the beginning of the academic year. Here is a recap of what happened:

       - Over 70 students were interested in joining the movement.

       - 34 Kind Mind notes were written and hidden around campus for others to find.

       - Lots of melted candy...oops. We had great weather!

A few of our directors at the ExploreU event at the University of Minnesota recruiting incoming students.

Following our successful recruitment event, we hosted several events on the University of Minnesota campus. Our Yard Games event allowed students to connect in an inclusive environment and play games such as Spikeball and Bags. Next, we wanted to focus on wellbeing and hosted a guided meditation (with Insomnia Cookies!). Lastly, we send out a bi-weekly newsletter to students filled with mental health resources and tips.

We are only getting started.

Our Future.

We envision a world where everyone stands a little taller, smiles a little bigger, and cares a little longer—so we're going to do just that. Beginning with college students, we want to expand The Kind Mind Movement to every college campus across the United States. We will continue to refine our program offerings and provide new and innovative ways for students to view mental health advocacy. The Kind Mind Movement will provide students of all backgrounds with a community they can rely on.

Financial support continues to be a challenge for our organization. Please consider helping us financially so we can plan and support meaningful initiatives. If you're unable to give at this time, no worries! We'll happily accept likes, follows and shares on our social media. Join the movement—kindness begins with you. Donate today.
