Dear Family, Friends and Community,
Keep Our Littles Ticking (K.O.L.T.) Foundation was formed by Mikaela and Michael Fenger after losing their son, Kolt Fenger, stillborn at 35 weeks 4 days in September of 2023 due to unforeseen umbilical cord issues. Just two months later, Mikaela and Michael wanted to turn their pain and heartache into passion and change. They started the planning of their foundation in November of 2023 even sending out care packages to a few bereaved families. Their foundation officially became a non-profit (501c3) on January 2, 2024.
Doctors as well as the Fenger’s believe that if Mikaela had a 3D anatomy ultrasound that the umbilical cord issues could have been discovered much sooner and the Fenger’s and the doctor could have come up with a delivery plan much sooner and there is a huge probability that Kolt could be here today. The problem is that most insurance companies do not cover 3D ultrasounds at all.
After Kolt was born stillborn, Mikaela and Mike received a bereavement package that contained a baby blanket, a baby hat and a onesie. While Mikaela and Mike appreciate the thought of the package, it also brought heartache because Kolt will never be able to enjoy the items that they received. This package prompted Mikaela to want to offer a bereavement package to families that is more practical. Packages have been created for families that have experienced miscarriage, stillborn or infant loss. These packages include items such as a notebook to write letters to their babies in heaven or to journal their feelings, devotionals, books on loss of a child and grieving, resources in their area to help with their loss, comfort items such as blankets and cozy socks and many other comfort items. The stillborn and infant loss packages also include a weighted stuffed animal for mothers to help with their empty arm syndrome.
The foundation also will be holding grieving parent groups to give parents a supportive group who understands their loss where they can help each other through their grieving process and give each other ideas to help with their grief. We also offer resources to families that are local to their area as we get care package requests from all over the United States. Our long-term goal is to also work with our congressmen, congresswomen and senators to work on legislation to make it mandatory that insurance companies pay for an anatomy 3D ultrasound for families so that no other families have to suffer the loss that Mikaela and Mike have.
We are inviting you or your organization/business to help us to continue our work to help grieving families with the loss of their child. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, our foundation relies on the support of individuals and businesses like yours to help support our program and services. We are asking for your support through a tax-deductible donation that would directly enhance our ability to send out even more bereavement care packages and to aid us in achieving our future goals. You or your company will be acknowledged on our Facebook page at Keep Our Littles Ticking Foundation and on our website at www.koltfoundation.org
If you are interested in supporting our care package efforts, please mail your tax-deductible donation to: Keep Our Littles Ticking Foundation, 121 S. 10th St., Montevideo, MN 56265 or you can donate on our website at www.koltfoundation.org under donation or you can donate by sponsoring a certain amount of care packages under sponsor a care package on our website.
