House-Raising Corp

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to early intervention and restorative justice, focusing on keeping at-risk youth out of the legal system. Our flagship program, Holistic Diversion, partners with families and youth aged 10 to 25 to understand and address the root causes of their behaviors. 

We emphasize building their future through business-related apprenticeships.In this program, young people collaborate with local businesses in the arts or trades, gaining new skills and real-world experience. This mentorship often continues even after they complete the program.

Current Activities

Our clients are actively engaged in various projects that highlight their growth and potential. For example:

1. Basic Living Skills Workshops: Each month, we dive into essential topics such as financial literacy, time management, and communication skills. Clients reflect on how these topics impact their lives and practice implementing them through exercises and real-life scenarios.
2. Community Projects: Clients choose and develop projects that benefit the community. One group is working on a project to raise funds for The Trevor Project, focusing on supporting LGBTQ+ youth. They have planned events, set goals, and recruited volunteers, learning valuable project management and leadership skills along the way.
3. Mental Health Support: We collaborate with other service providers to ensure our clients’ mental health needs are met. This holistic approach helps them navigate personal challenges while staying focused on their goals.

We hold youth accountable for their delinquent or criminal behavior, but our programs are designed to steer them away from such behaviors and towards opportunities. We aim to help them find a sense of purpose, set them up for success, and give them hope for their futures. By understanding how to navigate the complex world around them, our youth can engage in positive activities and advocate for themselves, ultimately staying away from the legal system.
