Holistic Ministry of Children of the Horn of Africa ("HMCHA") is reaching out in love to the forgotten children of Ethiopia.

HMCHA is a nondenominational Christian organization that has been reaching out to the forgotten children in the villages of Yerer, Ethiopia since 2007.  HMCHA helps children in Ethiopia rise out of poverty through education and mentoring.  120 sponsored children and their families are supported economically and spiritually while they are empowered to achieve and strive to create change in their lives and communities while growing in their faith. The goal of sponsorship is to help students graduate, prepared to support their own families and contribute to society. We are dedicated to supporting children and families in Ethiopia via sponsorships and special projects.  Our projects are specific requests from the Ethiopian community to improve their way of life.  Below is a summary of our projects over the past several years:

  1.  2014: HMCHA completed construction of a bridge over the Wadecha River.  The bridge allows people and livestock to cross the river safely.
  2.  2018: We finished a community center (and playground) near the Keteba village including a library and computer lab used to educate children and adults in English, computer skills, finance, and economic development. Total cost was about $128,000.
  3.  2021: HMCHA opened a primary school in the village of Keteba. There are 2 buildings with 4 classrooms. In January 2021, children in Kindergarten and Grade 1 were eager to start their classes and meet their teachers. 40 registered for this year; a grade will be added each year up to Grade 4. Classrooms are furnished with desks, blackboards, and office supplies. Classes are taught by 3 teachers. The curriculum includes Reading, Mathematics, Science, English, Handwriting, and Sports. The students use the Community Center Library, which sits next to the school. The Ethiopian government granted HMCHA the required licensing and said, “the school is so beautiful, it looks like a university!"
Total cost was about $85,000 to plan, construct, and furnish.
  4. 2022: HMCHA purchased a home (SonShine house) to be used as a high school girls dormitory. The teenagers that we serve live far away from high school and have to rent a home (which is typically a room in an existing home), which is expensive, lonely, and at times unsafe. Our new home provides a free, safe, and thriving environment for 18 high school girls to be able to focus on their studies. A house couple lives with and guides the girls in various day-to-day activities.
Total cost was about $98,000, including furnishing and other updates.

All projects were fully funded from our amazing sponsors and supporters! Praise the Lord!

Please consider donating to assist with the above and future projects for our amazing families in Ethiopia! The 2022 campaign will go to towards providing new textbooks for our 1st - 3rd graders. Additionally, the funds will go towards providing tutors to our sponsored students on the outskirts of the Yerer region. No student left behind!

Lastly, we need your help as there are numerous children in need without a sponsor. Through a child sponsorship of $360 per year, you can support their immediate needs which includes education, food, clean water, clothing, and proper health care.  Every dollar goes to the families. You can give through the GiveMN website or via hmcha.org for your child sponsorship. For more information about children sponsorship visit our website!
