HKMP began in 1995 to provide mentoring service to "at-risk" children and youth. Mentoring programming from trained and caring adults have proven to have lasting and positive benefits to these children and youth.   These children are referred to the program due to delayed or difficulty in their social and emotional development. HKMP has two main goals: 1) To help increase a child's self-esteem; and 2) To provide opportunities for children/youth to develop positive and healthy relationships. Strong social and emotional skills are building blocks for other skills including academics and good citizenship. Current services include Group Mentoring for children in Kindergarten - 6th grade. These groups meet weekly for 1 1/2 hours and lessons are focused on Kindness Concepts from the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. Parents participate monthly in Parent-Child Events for children in Kindergarten - 2nd grade. Children in 3rd-6th grade experience community activities which support increasing social skills.
