Hiawatha Community School is a culturally diverse, urban community school located within walking distance of the Minnehaha Falls in South Minneapolis. Pre-K-2nd grade are housed at the Hiawatha Campus and 3rd-5th grade are housed at the Howe Campus.  The two campuses are about six blocks apart.     

The principal and staff are committed to implementing rigorous, instructional strategies that are designed to actively engage students in learning. The teachers and dedicated support staff instruct students using a balanced literacy and math approach. Hiawatha is a Title One Schoolwide Program site. We value the established partnerships between the community, family and the school. We proudly earned a MESPA School of Excellence Award, and are continually striving to improve.
