The air at the Ames Ice Arena is electric, at 6 am on a cold Minnesota Sunday. Amidst the shimmering frost and the silent stands, a small, dedicated group of young athletes finds their grace, their discipline, and their joy.
This is the home of the Heritage Figure Skating Club, a small club with a massive heart.
Meet Natasha, a 12-year-old whose eyes light up when she perfects a spiral. Meet Elle, whose determination to land her first double axel keeps her coming back, session after session. And Nadia, an 11th grader who juggles figure skating with being in National Honor Society, marching band, ultimate frisbee and has a part-time job.
For these kids, the rink is a place where they learn perseverance, confidence, and the beauty of hard work.

But our small club faces a towering challenge: the steep cost of ice time.
Figure skating is a beautiful sport, but it's an expensive one. We rent the ice by the hour, and it's adds up alarmingly fast. These high costs are a heavy burden for our small membership, making it difficult to keep the sport accessible to every child. We believe that passion, not financial ability, should determine who gets to chase their dreams on the ice.
