Imagine being picked up off the street by a stranger and brought to a strange place with lots of noises. Then you are put into a metal cage with water and food and left there. You don’t know what has happened to you or what is going to happen.

This is what happens every day to stray cats in our area. And sad as it sounds, they are often the lucky ones. Instead of starving, freezing to death, or being hit by a car, they get taken into Animal Control and have a warm place to stay until someone comes to adopt them. But if no one comes, they will eventually have to be euthanized.

Helping Paws of Southern Minnesota has been the savior for many of these homeless cats for the past several years. We are an all-volunteer, no-kill, 5013c nonprofit organization. We take the cats into loving foster homes, spay/neuter and vaccinate them, provide them with any other needed vet care, and adopt them into their forever homes. In 2025, we have rescued 35 cats brought to animal control.

In addition to animal control cats, we take in stray cats and kittens, as well as some whose owners can no longer care for them. So far, we have rescued 92 of these cats and kittens in 2025. Another important mission is spaying and neutering community cats who live outdoors in towns and rural areas. We have helped 36 of these cats this year.

Food, vet care, and medicine are all costly. In 2025 we have spent $30,433 SO FAR on vet care. We depend 100 percent on donations from kind people like you.

Won’t you help us help the helpless? Any amount is appreciated!
