Heading Home K9 Rescue

Heading Home K9 Rescue is a volunteer-run, foster-based, no-kill 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue located in the Twin Cities.

We at Heading Home K9 Rescue are a group of dedicated, dog-loving volunteers whose mission is to rescue unwanted, abandoned, stray, and neglected dogs and place them in the best home possible for their needs.

We have a soft spot for those needing the most help - the puppy mill survivors, seniors, big black mixed breeds, the heartworm positive, and the injured.

Our dogs do not live in a facility. They are integrated into the lives of individual foster homes and become a part of our family. We try to match the dogs with the needs, wants, personalities, and lifestyles of potential adopters to ensure a healthy, happy, and permanent home.

Our average adoption fee is $385+tax =$413.97

We receive NO government support and depend solely on adoption fees, fundraisers, and donations. Your donation allows us to continue saving lives and giving these amazing animals a second chance. While our typical adoption fee is $385+tax per dog, around half of the dogs HHK9 takes into rescue have medical needs beyond the standard vetting (alter, vaccines, HW/tick test, deworming, microchip, and preventatives). Some of these needs include heartworm treatment, dentals, surgeries, etc. The average cost of vetting when factoring in these extra medical costs is $550 per dog. While we recoup the majority of expenses through adoption fees, we rely on donations to help make up the difference.

Here are some examples of medical costs that we pay:

$5 pays for deworming

$10 pays for a microchip

$15 for a health certificate

$20 pays for monthly preventatives

$25 pays for all vaccines

$35 pays for a HW test

$30-50 pays for an exam/treatment for common illness/ailments- like ear infections, Lymes/Erlichia/tick-borne diseases, kennel cough, etc, etc. 

$75-$150 pays for a neuter

$100-200 pays for a spay

$300-600 pays for a dental 

$200-800 pays for a HW treatment

$500-5,000+ pays for major surgery
