HCAPE Foundation

The Hennepin County Association of Paramedics and EMTs, or HCAPE for short, is the Union that represents the world-class Paramedics and Emergency Medical Dispatchers at Hennepin EMS.  The HCAPE Foundation is a community focused nonprofit that is based in the labor values of the union members at Hennepin EMS. 

The mission of the HCAPE Foundation is to increase workforce capacity and diversity by providing educational scholarship opportunities for those entering the field (paramedic and EMT), by creating wellness opportunities for those in the field (paramedic and EMT) and by increasing community support and connectedness. 

The Paramedics and Emergency Medical Dispatchers at Hennepin EMS are some the busiest first responders in Minnesota and though we serve arguably the most diverse patient population in the upper Midwest, Hennepin EMS is one of the least diverse departments in all of Hennepin Healthcare.  The single largest barrier to a more diverse EMS workforce is access to a high-quality Emergency Medical Technician course.  The HCAPE Foundation is focused on increasing workplace diversity by recruiting, mentoring, and funding the education of young people of color who want to become EMTs and Paramedics.
