Grandparents for Education is an organization of volunteers designed to provide schools and school children access to caring supportive actual and honorary grandparents and to provide opportunities for these volunteers to engage in meaningful activities in a school setting. Grandparents for Education brings experience, knowledge and serves as a role model as well as bringing in another facet of education into our community to support education. We enhance cross-generational partnerships through active involvement in schools leading toward student success and safety.
Our member’s backgrounds and activities are matched with students as much as possible. We have the support of School Administrators, teachers, community and the students themselves. We have been given the “Friend of Education Award” by the local school district, the “Outstanding Service Award” given to us by the State Chapter of the Delta Kappa International Society and “Grandparents of the Year” given to us by the local Kiwanis Organization. GFE volunteers are part of a team helping students. This team includes the teachers, parents, peers, grandparents and our members. We cannot fully take credit for improvement, but each day we see it.
