Across Africa, countless women faithfully attend church — yet still struggle to access God’s Word in a way that truly reaches their hearts.

Many cannot read, or did not receive formal education. Traditional Bible study materials are written for literate learners. Sermons are often heard — then forgotten — without tools to discuss, repeat, and apply Scripture.

Gospel Joy International creates audio Bible studies designed specifically for oral learners — studies that are spoken, not written. Each lesson is recorded by local voice actors, loaded onto solar-powered audio players, and used in women-led discipleship circles across rural communities.

This Give to the Max Day, we’re launching our most ambitious project yet — an audio Bible study on the Book of John.

John’s Gospel was written so that people may believe — and now, women across Africa will be able to hear Jesus’ story from start to finish, in their own language, in a format made for them.

This isn’t just an idea — we’ve seen firsthand how access to Scripture in audio form transforms lives.

In Benin, following one of our training sessions, a participant approached our Program Officer and shared through tears:

“I knew there was something missing.”

When asked what she meant, she continued,

“I pray and I trust Jesus, but I knew it wasn’t enough. Now I understand — it’s the Word of God I was missing. I need to know His Word!”

Though her faith in Christ was sincere, she had never been rooted in Scripture. That moment marked a turning point — not just in her understanding, but in her desire to grow deeply in God’s truth.
