Global Academy

Who are we?  

Global Academy is an award-winning K-8 public charter school that leads Minnesota in closing the achievement gap. Our mission is based on the principles of the International Baccalaureate Programme, and we are an authorized IB site. Global Academy's school culture provides an engaging, safe environment in which students can learn.

Most Global Academy families identify with recent immigrant communities from around the world who have come to Minnesota seeking opportunity and refuge. 

From the beginning of Global Academy in 2006, we have emphasized an inquiry-based approach undergirded by research-based curriculum and positive behavior support. The inquiry-based approach builds on students' curiosity and desire to understand themselves and the world. The research-based reading, writing and math curriculum gives students the skills needed to access and apply content to make meaning. 

Both inquiry and skill building rely on a social and emotional learning program that builds confidence, self- esteem, collaborative skills and resilience. Recent immigrants, students of color, and lower income students in general, face systemic educational barriers. Our students have to be more resilient and committed to overcome these barriers while also not sacrificing kindness, empathy and collaboration.

As with most public schools in Minnesota, Global Academy is not funded at a level that allows us to meet all of the needs of our students.  Your contribution will help us to buy books, uniforms, fields trips and supplies that our students need.  We appreciate your genrosity.
