Glen Avon Hockey Club, preserving a Duluth hockey tradition

You can feel the chill in the air already.  In the next few weeks the volunteers of the Glen Avon Hockey Club will start their 100 hour flood to get the rinks ready for the upcoming outdoor hockey season.  Glen Avon is part of a proud and enduring legacy in the city of Duluth, Minnesota with the last outdoor neighborhood hockey association in the United States. It serves the Hunters Park neighborhood in Duluth.

Established in 1947, Glen Avon's PeeWee team won National titles in 1951, 1952 and 1958.  In addition to producing many players who have advanced to a high level of play, Glen Avon has provided a place for thousands of neighborhood kids and families to learn to skate and participate in the game of hockey.  Today the Ice Mites, Mite 1's, Mite 2's and Squirts develop their skills at outdoor practices and games.  The Club's mission is to create a positive experience, develop social and athletic ability in the children and develop hockey skills in a manner that supports their continued love of the game.

Glen Avon is 100% volunteer run by parents of the Glen Avon girls and boys.  Donations go toward reducing the cost of hockey for all the kids.  In addition, they will help pay for rink and facility maintenance, hockey scholarships and hockey equipment.
