Join the Give to the Max 2024 Fundraiser and support the Giiwedinong Treaty Rights & Culture Museum!
We are located in the heart of the 1855 Treaty area of the Anishinaabe and beyond. The Giiwedinong Treaty Rights & Culture Museum stands as a testament to the culturally rich history, vibrant stories, treaty rights, and water protector movement knowledge of the Anishinaabe community. We lovingly refer to ourselves as the "Little Museum That Could" that transformed a former Carnegie Library into a growing cultural monument.
Our vision for Giiwedinong is Mino Bimaadiziiwin, which means “to live the good life” for all Indigenous peoples as bestowed by the Creator and carried on by generations past and future. Our cultural knowledge is deeply rooted in our relationship to Akiing, the land to which we belong.
Our mission is to honor, empower, and inspire both the Anishinaabe and Dakota communities through immersive exhibitions, dynamic public programs, and transformative education. We aim to ignite awareness, foster respect, and drive meaningful change.
Together, we can ensure that our legacy inspires and educates future generations. The Giiwedinong Treaty Rights & Culture Museum is a beacon of pride and cultural preservation for the Anishinaabe community.
Within the museum's walls, visitors are transported back in time to experience the rich history of the Anishinaabe people and treaty rights. Immersive exhibits featuring cultural artists bring to life the essence of this resilient community. The museum honors the sacrifices of past generations while celebrating the vibrant culture that continues to thrive today.
As dedicated members of the Anishinaabe community, we are united in our mission to share our captivating stories with the world. By preserving and celebrating our cultural heritage, we can strengthen understanding and appreciation for the diverse tapestry that makes up our society.
On October 12, 2024, we joyfully celebrated the successful completion of our first year, during which we had the privilege of serving 300 students from regional schools and welcoming over 1,100 guests throughout the year. We take pride in our work and look forward to the growth that is ahead.
Moving forward, we need your support to accomplish this important work. Your contributions are essential for keeping the Giiwedinong Treaty Rights & Culture Museum alive and thriving. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. With your help, we can continue to offer educational programs, workshops, native artist development, and community events that unite people of the communities and empower future generations.
The Giiwedinong Treaty Rights & Culture Museum plays a vital role in promoting a world where diverse cultures are celebrated and respected. It aims to elevate the voices of Indigenous peoples, ensuring that their perspectives are valued and heard. By supporting this museum, you can help turn this vision into a tangible reality, contributing to the preservation and recognition of Indigenous cultures and treaty rights.
Together, we can ensure that the legacy of the Anishinaabe community continues to inspire and educate for years to come. Join us on this extraordinary journey and help us create a future where the “Little Museum That Could” becomes a beacon of hope and understanding for all.
