The Germanic-American Institute is more than just a building on Summit Avenue. It’s a welcoming space where people of all ages come together to celebrate language, heritage, and shared experiences. It’s where friendships are formed, traditions are passed on, and culture is brought to life in meaningful ways. 

Our mission is simple but powerful: to connect people to the broader world through German language and culture. Whether through preschool, language classes, cultural events, or casual conversations over coffee and cake, the GAI fosters a strong and inclusive community rooted in connection.

Our work focuses on: 

Education

  • Kinderstube German Immersion Preschool
  • Children's summer language camps
  • Samstagsschule (Saturday school) for children
  • German language classes for adults
  • Individualized tutoring for children and adults
  • Test center for Goethe Institut proficiency exams

Cultural Programming

  • Public events such as Deutsche Tage, Christmas in Germany, Laternenfest, Twin Cities German Film Festival, the St. Paul Oktoberfest, and so much more!
  • Cultural events throughout the year featuring authors, speakers, film screenings, and performers from across the U.S. and Europe.
