Friends of Historic Finlayson

A nonprofit organization

Established in September 2024, the Friends of Historic Finlayson (FOHF) is a new local 501c (3) nonprofit organization.

Our mission and purpose consists of restoring and preserving Finlayson's historically architecturally significant buildings, making them available for public viewing.

The Board of Directors have chosen the 1909 constructed Northern Pacific Combination Depot as its first project. The depot provided local and regional residents connection with Duluth and St. Paul, along with movement of timber driving economic growth for the region.   The restored depot will be used as a public museum providing educational opportunities for students and regional residents showcasing the rich history of the area.

The train depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Through volunteer supporters, FOHF have begun to tackle this meaningful project.  The building foundation has been shored up and solidified with new concrete footings.  Window fabrication has begun where construction needs to follow early 1900’s material design, keeping requirements of the National Registry guidelines.  Our volunteer supporters are outstanding, and we are hoping to do even more in our efforts through generous donations secured through the 2025 Minnesota Give to the Max campaign.

Every donation contributes in making a difference and takes FOHF one step closer to restoring our past and brightening our future.

Thank You.
