Freeborn County Humane Society

We are a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter located in Southern MN and we operate our organization on donations and fundraisers.  We started out in 1976 as a volunteer group of animal lovers who wanted to make a difference in the lives of stray and unwanted pets in our community.   However, over the last couple of years we have grown into more than just an animal rescue, but also a resource for helping not only the animals, but also the pet families in our community.  Our mission statement has evolved with the needs in our community.  "Our mission is to create an animal friendly community with help and information to build strong pet families, find loving homes for animals, and reduce over population."

Our goals include helping stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals find loving homes, but to also assist pet families in many different ways so they don't get to the point where they feel their only option is to surrender their family pets.  We are also an intake for local law enforcement and work to reunite lost pets with their families.  We also engage in TNR efforts and assist those in our community with spaying/neutering cats to try to reduce the population of unplanned/unwanted litters of kittens.

Donations are the life line of our organization.  As the need for the services we provide continue to increase, so does our need for funding.  Vet costs, medications, food, litter, cleaning supplies, and many other operating costs are constantly needed for our shelter to continue it's mission.
