Foster Advocates

Foster Advocates is not just our name; it’s our mission. We foster advocacy, policy change, and organizing with and for Minnesota Fosters. We envision a Minnesota where everyone involved in the state’s foster care system has the same access to opportunities and outcomes as their peers, and Foster voices are respected and community expertise is sought in every aspect of the child welfare system. 

Early leaders in our network named foster care creates an immutable cultural identity that goes unrecognized once they are reunited with family, adopted, or age out. We use the term Foster to name and claim this unique identity.

As the only Foster-led advocacy organization in Minnesota, we don’t just amplify Foster voices—we make sure Fosters have a seat at the table and are positioned to advocate from a place of power rather than pain. We have led the passage of 6 significant legislative wins in just 6 years, including the most comprehensive college-support for Fosters in the county!
