First Lutheran Church of Detroit Lakes

Over the past several years we have seen an increase in people seeking assistance at First Lutheran Church, which is why this year's Give to the Max Day focus will be on First Lutheran Church's Agape Fund.  

 In our post-Covid world, we continue to receive daily calls or visits from people who are in need, whether it is financial emergencies or homelessness. Numerous individuals come here to for a hot meal, have coffee, are seeking shelter or other assistance. Working with community partners, we strive to help individuals find shelter, and provide transportation to, the Fargo-Moorhead or other areas.  The funds to provide such services come from our Agape Ministry Fund.  

In addition to helping to provide shelter, the Agape Fund helps with barriers people experience being in crisis. Your donations will help provide people with bus tokens, bus tickets, assisting with auto repairs, which are vital to getting individuals to a much needed job or appointment.  Helping families by assisting with electricity bills, phone bills & paying to fix housing problems like leaking pipes.  Individuals who are seeking employment or applying for housing are sometimes missing vital documentation. Your donations will help pay for the fees to pay for copies of birth certificates, driver’s licenses, social security card, or paying a month’s cell phone bill so they can make & receive calls for employment.
