I’m Lechuga, proud graduate (with Kitty Cum Laude honors) from Feline Rescue Academy. My record? Impeccable. I completed every course available, AP Snuggling, Honors Zoomies, and Independent Study in Treat Acquisition. My thesis, Effective Communication Through Headbutts, earned me a 4.0 Good Paws Average!

My professors were endlessly patient as I learned that toys are for claws; people are for cuddles, and sometimes the best way to earn attention is to nap quietly (I’m still studying that last part). I’ve loved my friends at the academy here, buy one by one, I’ve seen my classmates graduate to their forever homes. I stayed behind, proud yet puzzled. I was at the top of the class, in every subject! Why hadn’t my name been called?

Then one afternoon during Advanced Birdwatching, a family came to tour the Academy. They brought a tiny human with them, a young evaluator with a big presence. The moment our eyes met, I knew this was my final exam. I straightened my posture, flicked my tail into perfect form, and sprang into action.

And then all at once they left. I tried so hard. Perfect paws, perfect leaps, zero excited nibbles. So why didn’t I pass? I watched the door, waiting to hear my name. No one called. I guess today just wasn’t my day. But later, I overheard my professors, “The little boy hasn’t stopped talking about him. They’re getting ready for him to come home.” My ears perked. Me?

Soon, I heard small, quick footsteps approaching. The door opened, and there he was: the tiny human, my evaluator! I didn’t wait for instructions. I knew I already passed his test. I trotted right up to him, tail high, ready for whatever this new lesson was. He crouched down, opened the carrier just for me, and I climbed inside without hesitation. This wasn’t any class field trip; this was my graduation day!

These days, I go by Lord Spaghetti Duke of Meatballs, a title befitting a cat of my academic standing, given to me by my tiny human, of course! Now my studies have shifted from theory to practice. I oversee household happiness, manage cuddle schedules, and monitor snack distribution with great attention to detail. Every night, I clock out and curl up beside my little human and think about how long it took to earn this dream job and how lucky I am to have it.

But I also think about my classmates still waiting at the Academy. The shy ones who need extra tutoring in Trust 101. The seniors who take a little longer to master New Home Transitions. I had a lot of friends there still waiting for their forever homes too.

They’re all learning, just like I was. And while they wait for their own graduation day, it takes a village to fund scholarships, keep the academy lights on and the food bowls full.

You were there for me, even if you didn’t know it. Your donations made my diploma possible.

Will you make a gift to Feline Rescue to help cats like me graduate with honors?

With love (and an expertly placed headbutt),

 Lechuga <3

Help Our Community of Cats and Caregivers Thrive This Give to the Max Day

Feline Rescue is built on a simple belief. When a community comes together, cats and the people who love them have a better chance at stability, safety, and compassion. This Give to the Max Day, we are working toward a goal of $40,000 for core mission support, which keeps that community strong.

Your gift supports the everyday work that holds everything together: safe sheltering, veterinary care, adoption support, and community programs that help families keep their cats at home. It ensures that when a cat needs help, and when a person reaches out for support, Feline Rescue is ready.

Give to the Max Day is our moment to show what is possible when everyone pitches in. Will you help us reach this goal and continue building a community where cats and people can thrive?
