The Albert Lea Family Y has a rich history in Freeborn County since 1914. The programs and activies continually evolve to meet the ever changing needs of the community. The Albert Lea Family Y's mission: To put christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all; is its driving force. The Albert Lea Family Y programs are the tools to build the values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility. Through a variety of programs and activities these values are spread accross the community. The Albert Lea Family Y serves over 3000 members and even more non-members through a wide variety of building and community programs. No one is ever denied membership or access to programs and activities of the Albert Lea Family Y due to inability to pay thanks to generous contributions to the annual Youth Fund Drive and support from our local United Way. All fifth graders in Freeborn County receive free membership to the Albert Lea Family Y thanks to the MBT Bank and the Hubbard Foundation. All 6th graders have the opportunity to participate in a 7 week health and wellnes initiative thanks to the United way, School district and Mayo Clinic Health System. All 7th grade students receive a free membership to the Family Y thanks to Mayo Clinic Health Systems. By getting children involved at a young age ensures a positive health and wellness foundation. The Albert Lea Family Y believes there is strength in working with others to develop unique, efficient, and quality programs; while avoiding duplication of services. Collaboration with many other agencies and organizations provides for much impact in developing a healthy community. Volunteerism is a major component in all of the Albert Lea Family Y's activities. without great volunteers the opportunity to serve the community would be more difficult. When individuals and families enter the Family Y we hope that it is their first step in becoming actively involved. Volunteerism is a program of the Y that can and does impact positively the lives of many. Areas include coaching, babysitting, fitness instructing, water exercise, teen leadership and day camp to name a few. The Albert Lea Family Y is here to help people Live Long and Stay Strong in spirit, mind and body.
The Albert Lea Family Y has embarked on Community Health and Wellness Initiatives to Positively impact the community. These include Diabetes Prevention, The Livestrong Program at the YMCA and the Learning Gap Initiative. Through programs like these we will be able to meet the needs of individuals in need of support and guidance as they work through different issues.
