Neighbors helping neighbors bridge the hunger gap in Koochiching County one step at a time in a positive and respectful environment.

Our food shelf is here to serve individuals and families without food or resources to buy food. We offer a five to seven day supply of the essential food items to each household member. Clients complete an application for service from Falls Hunger Coalition to assist in determining that their household’s income falls within our guidelines.

Here are a few additional services and networking we provide…

Emergency Pantries throughout our county: Littlefork School Pantry & various little pantries

Nutrition Education: Partnering with the MN Extension, Falls Hunger Coalition provides cooking demonstrations, recipes, nutritional information and cooking classes to clients.

Government Assistance Programs: NAPS (Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors): provides a monthly food package containing nutrient-dense commodity food products to supplement the diets of low-income seniors.

Summer Food Service: This program was designed to allow children the opportunity to eat a well balanced meal during the summer months when there is no school. The food is served cafeteria style as if the children were on their lunch hour at school Monday—Friday during the noon hour. This program is offered at Backus Community Center and is funded with assistance of Falls Hunger Coalition and other grants. Parents may also attend the lunch with their children for $3/day. Parents who do not have the means to pay are covered by FHC.

Snack Packs for Kids: On Fridays during the Summer Food Service program, FHC provides and distributes lunch bags of food to children attending the lunch. The “Snack Pack” is intended to help feed the children over the weekend. Contents may include: soup, juice boxes, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, crackers, peanut butter, mac n cheese, fruit, etc. Easy items for children to eat and prepare.
