What is happening

It’s been about a week since many around the country first saw what’s been happening in our neighborhoods, on our streets, and in our homes all around Minnesota. For some, this is newly visible.  For the families we serve, this is not new.

Right now, many families are making impossible choices.  Parents are deciding whether it’s safer to go to work or stay home.  Children are staying home because of the fear of going to and from school.  Survivors are weighing whether leaving an abuser could put their family at greater risk.

We are hearing the same question again and again: “What can I do to help?”

We know how.

At Esperanza United, the most urgent need right now for the survivors and families we serve and support is flexible cash.

Why flexible cash matters

Cash allows families to pay rent and covers basic needs when going to work is not possible or when going to the grocery store is not safe.  Cash permits survivors to make decisions rooted in safety and dignity.

This is the work we have done for over four decades. And this is what our community needs right now.

When you give $500 or more, an anonymous donor will match your gift.

Safety is not a privilege; it’s a right.  Thank you for standing with us every day, in so many ways.
