North Star is a small, but growing non-profit in greater Minnesota that is committed to reducing further trauma to children and vulnerable adults impacted by abuse. North Star offers comprehensive support and embraces a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to the investigation, treatment, and prosecution of reported cases of abuse.

Prior to the development of Child Advocacy Centers and Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT), allegations of child abuse were investigated independently by various, but necessary agencies involved in such cases. Children were often subjected to multiple interviews by well-intentioned social, legal, medical, mental health, and law enforcement agencies as they tried to address investigative and protective concerns. This process tended to be ineffective and non victim centered, resulting in duplication of efforts,  and delayed responses and interventions.

Today, we have Children and Family Advocacy Centers like North Star that fosters collaboration among agencies (MDT) and recognizes the unique needs of children and vulnerable adult victims. No one agency or individual can successfully manage and investigate a child or vulnerable adult abuse case; it takes a team working together and in the best interest of our families.
