Each year 80% of our visitors (12,000+ students, teachers and adult chaperones) take part in our residential overnight school program, the Outdoor School.
But as you know, earlier this spring schools closed and pivoted to distance learning. While this was a necessary move to combat the early spread of the virus, it essentially eliminated all of our programming for the spring and meant that over 4,000 students from mid-March to June missed out on this powerful outdoor learning experience.
This was a devastating reality for us to face, but at that time we remained optimistic about being able to return to normal programming come this fall.
Unfortunately, that has turned out to be far from the case as over 90% of our school groups scheduled for this fall have cancelled their trips.
When I think about the future of Eagle Bluff, I cannot help but feel excited about all of the children, families and adults who will have life-changing experiences in nature because of you.
But because of the ongoing devastation caused by the pandemic, these transformative experiences are greatly at risk.
With the pandemic now raging worse than ever, the likelihood of returning to normal programming in the spring is quickly fading. We are bracing for an avalanche of school trip cancellations next year.
We can’t control what’s happening with the pandemic. We can’t control the ability of schools to attend field trips. But we can control whether or not we’ll be here, ready to get kids and families back outdoors once this crisis is finally over.
But we can’t do this without you. You can help make sure Eagle Bluff stays open, strong, and ready as soon as the next school groups can make the trip again.
Please make your most generous gift today to help our educators continue to make these life-changing experiences happen for students and families.
