Connecting to Community Through Dance

Diversity Street Dancers is a folk-inspired performing group from Russia, Eastern Europe and the United States. As dancers and artists, we are deeply committed to promoting the rich cultural traditions and their interpretation reflected in folk dance, arts and crafts.

Mission and History

Diversity Street Dancers started in 2005 as a neighborhood group of immigrants getting together to overcome their homesickness and share life experiences. The group grew naturally and survived 10 years of existence at the Twin cities performing scene. During these years DSD (Diversity Street Dancers) have been featured in the local Russian-speaking mass media and performed in various events, including but not limited to World Refugee Day Festival, Loring Art Festival, Music Festivals, etc.

Since the first day we formed, the Diversity Street Dancers have been honing traditional Eastern European dance practices while reaching out to new audiences, unfamiliar with our traditions.  We are proud to grow professionally and to now be well recognized within the traditional arts community. Our goal is to grow professionally, research, and perform traditional pieces from other regions of the world.  DSD activities intended to have a positive effect on the overall emotional status of cross-generational performers.
