Our primary focus in the past year has been to work with youth and to continue cross-cultural dialogues among community members and city departments. We are organizing dialogues with all members of the juvenile justice system and the community. Our organization has empowered neighbors to upgrade the business district, put new playground equipment in our parks, and plan for the future of our neighborhoods. We have formed partnerships with other eastside organizations to bring opportunities to residents to make their homes more energy efficient, find fruitful activities for young people, and create community spaces such as community gardens, to paint murals and to clean up the environment. We publish the local neighborhood newspaper and also spread news and information on our website and blog. We manage a city-wide Community Drop Off every spring and hold an INTERNational Night Out event every August that highlights the cultural diversity of our area. We facilitate community meetings on topics of interest to residents, and educate around the environment and sustainability. And we work with our local elected officials to make sure that our neighborhoods are vibrant and welcoming.
