Deer River Hired Hands, Inc. (DRHH) was formed in 1987 to provide developmental disabilities (DD) adults employment and be acknowledged as productive citizens. The founders felt strongly that these employees must be paid minimum wage, as their ability to work deserves and set a goal to hire 20 DD employees. Today DRHH has 52 total employees. Of the 52 employees, 40 are DD, 9 are supervisors and 3 are office staff. Deer River Hired Hands has two processing centers that provide the following services: Recycling (Pickup, Drop-off & Processing), Lawn Care, Commercial Cleaning, Plastic Lumber Product Line, and Wood Waste Collection and Wood Grinding. DRHH trucks can be seen all over Itasca County as they travel over 6500 miles per month. The organization now processes over 3000 tons of recyclables per year.
