Dedicated to improving water quality--one drop at a time!

The mission of the Crystal Waters Project is to improve water quality in the Crystal Lake Watershed through education, collaboration and action. The organization was founded in 2012. Though there is much yet to be done, many successes have been realized.

• Updates at Robinson Park: rain gardens planted, fishing pier installed, walking path created, lakeshore restored

• Adopt-a-drain program: Encourages homeowners to keep nearby sewer drains free from debris, which keeps chemicals and organic matter out of the lake

• Crystal Lake Watershed Pollinator Project: Native pollinators were planted at Jones and Robinson Parks, at LCWM High School and on homeowners lakeshores

• Rake-for-the Lake: Autumn leaves are collected throughout the city, which keeps nutrient-rich matter from entering the lake

• Installation of an iron-sand filter along County Ditch 56

• Ongoing education about water quality and steps that can be taken to improve it

Up next: A detailed lake assessment and a comprehensive report with suggestions for possible action steps.
