At the Community Action Center (CAC) we are “neighbors helping neighbors” and our mission is to promote a healthy, caring, and just community for all people through resources, advocacy, and volunteer effort.
This past year has been like no other in the history of the CAC, as nearly everything about how we engage with our community changed and adapted to meet evolving needs.
- Our food access delivery model rapidly shifted from a traditional practice into curbside pickup and now we offer unlimited shops so families can come as often as they desire to get what their family actually needs.
- We also increased food access with Farm to Family by partnering directly with local farmers to bring fresh, beautiful produce and dry goods out into the community where people live through hundreds of mobile distributions and home deliveries.
- In August, we broke ground on Hillcrest Village, a mixed housing project that has brought together leaders from the construction and environmental community to design Hillcrest Village as a Zero Energy Ready project that addresses both homelessness and climate change in a shared community effort.
- It's been a whirlwind but throughout all of the changes we never closed. In fact, we have grown and now serve even more of Rice County with a second location in Northfield and a brand new location in Faribault.
CAC has supported nearly four times more families and individuals in the past 12 months than we typically serve in an entire year. That is an unbelievable increase in need for access to healthy food, safe housing, and financial assistance, and the need is not going away. We need you to be a part of the response, so please give as generously as you are able and be a part of neighbors helping neighbors.
