The mission of the Cokato Historical Society is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of the city of Cokato and surrounding area.

Since 1974, the Cokato Historical Society has worked in partnership with the City of Cokato to operate the Cokato Museum and Gust Akerlund Photography Studio.  Through interpretive exhibits, public programming, books, our quarterly newsletter, web site, research services, and special events, we strive to accomplish that goal.

The Akerlund Studio is a National Register historic site and features original furnishings and equipment used by its proprieter, Gust Akerlund, during his nearly half-century tenure in Cokato.  A collection of negatives numbering just over 14,000 chronicles the lives and times of the people of this area.
