Coats of Kindness

Coats of Kindness collects new and gently used coats and winter wear free to those in need. We are warming communities one coat at a time.

Coats of Kindness started as a gesture to give back to our community after my husband, Eric's three year battle with cancer. By the grace of God, Eric is well today and as a family we strive to touch as many families as possible through our charity. Our first year, 2010 Coats of Kindness collected 450 coats.  Last year we reached 2,000 coats and just under 10,000 total items which were donated to various shelters and food shelfs. What makes us unique is our coats are given free of charge to those in need.

Coats of Kindness is youth driven. Our mission is to teach our children the importance of giving back to their community and to know that a simple act, such as donating a coat can change someone's life.

Coats of Kindness is a 100% volunteer organization. All donated funds are used 100% to seek out and purchase new, bulk discounted winter wear which is again donated at no cost. Last year we were able to acquire brand new youth coats for less than $3.50 per piece. Meaning a $100 donation can add up to more than 25 coats. Why new? Buying in bulk at discounted pricing allows us to reach more families and creates a bigger impact to the community. Last year we were able to purchase coats just prior to Christmas. I witnessed countless tears from parents receiving these jackets, hats and mittens. The shelters bought wrapping paper and bows and for many of these families this was their first brand new coat, ever.  These coats were for so many their only Christmas present. Coats of Kindness is gaining recognition.  That recognition has brought new opportunities for us to reach more individuals. Our work is great and the need continues to grow. Help us reach our goal by warming communities one coat at a time.
