City House is a non-profit organization with over 30 trained volunteer listening companions, a staff of three, many generous benefactors, 12 partner organizations and an active board of directors comprising a network of people who are rooted in the conviction that by learning to deeply listen in solidarity with one another and with an awareness of the sacredness of each story, we are changed as persons and as a community.
The work of City House cultivates deep listening in our community. Deep Listening is a practice and an art that is compassionate, healing, affirming, and non-judgmental. Listening is an important part of truly understanding ourselves and others, and is a first step in building trust in community. City House volunteers listen to people experiencing difficult times-- people who are isolated, people who are grieving, people who are growing through experiences of struggle.
Covid-19 has sidelined most of our volunteers as our social service partners navigate the pandemic. We have instead offered online listening training to church communities, and social service partner staff which has proven to be very timely and relevant, especially here in the Twin Cities.
