Doing Good With Food!

A charity that uses food to bring love

Chef Lucas Food is a Minnesota charity founded on the principle of doing good with food. We form charitable partnerships with the food service industry from seed to table to accomplish our mission of strengthening communities through food.

Food, because it is one of the most basic of human needs, is a very effective way to communicate love because of the personal experience one feels when eating something good. 12-year old aspiring chef, Lucas Hobbs, while undergoing cancer treatments for Hodgkin's Lymphoma, discovered that family meals given by his neighbors, as well as meals that he prepared at home, became a very positive experience for him and his family during an extremely difficult time. Lucas wanted to give back the kindness shown him when he was sick so he used his Make-A-Wish to give back with food. With the help of MN food trucks, Lucas fed approximately 3000 people during his Make-A-Wish journey that included: his school, his church, Minneapolis Children's Hospital, a senior citizen community, the Minneapolis police department, and a homeless shelter. The community was overwhelmed by Lucas' selflessness. In doing so, Lucas discovered the incredible compassion and generosity that exists among those that work in the food service industry. He had founded something new - a food co-op whose mission was to simply to do good.

Serving the community with a Bustaraunt and Pizza Truck

Lucas converted a school bus into a mobile restaurant to serve the cause of those battling cancer in Minnesota. Since going into remission for his cancer five years ago, Lucas has fed thousands throughout the United States, to include three Children's Hospitals nationwide: Minnesota, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Additionally, Chef Lucas has raised thousands of dollars for numerous charities with his Bustaurant, cooking with and learning from chefs like Andrew Zimmern, local Chef Yia Vang and the legendary Carolina BBQ Pit master Ed Mitchell. The Minnesota Vikings and U.S. Bank Stadium named Lucas a "Hometown Hero" in 2017.

More recently, Chef Lucas launched the Chef Lucas Pizza food truck and was named a "Ten under Twenty" food hero in the United States by Hormel Foods and Harvard University.  The Chef Lucas Pizza truck provides pizza free of charge to families and organizations in the battle against childhood cancer and other serious illnesses.

Soon, Chef Lucas will add an ice cream cart to his fleet of trucks and plans to bring it to hospitals in our community to incorporate a fun new way to continue 'doing good with food!'

Chef Lucas Food's mission is to give back to numerous organizations that serve the greater good in our communities.  Whether he uses his pizza food truck to feed a hospital, to raise funds for organizations like the American Cancer Society, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and/or  Ronald McDonald House, or simply to feed those in need, Chef Lucas Food strives to perform to acts of kindness designed to strengthen our community.  We seek to cover the costs to the extent necessary to release our charitable spirit.

Thank you for your contribution!
