Carlton County Animal Rescue

In 2022 a small group of community members joined together to form Carlton County Animal Rescue (CCAR) a 501c3 non profit organization dedicated to helping pets in Carlton County reunite with their companions, find caring forever homes, and live healthier lives through adoption, education, and providing resources for people and their pets. A huge gap for strays and abandoned animals, animal welfare, and rescue efforts was created in our community August of 2018 when the previous animal rescue located in Cloquet closed it’s doors.

In September of 2023, CCAR launched our volunteer operated foster based program and in just over a year the dedicated team with Carlton County Animal Rescue has been able to provide a temporary home, vetting care, and adoption to over 400 local cats and dogs.

In October 2024, CCAR was able to fundraise for a TRANSPORT VAN, which expanded our capacity to complete trips with multiple spay/neuter surgeries as well as transporting donations and supplies needed for operations.  

Over the summer of 2025 with the help of our building committee and realtor, we were able to find and purchase LAND!   Carlton County Animal Rescue officially purchased a 7.35 acre parcel of land, on the north end of Cloquet, on Highway 33, just south of the Cloquet Business Park. This property checks all the boxes that our building committee and board of directors have been searching for to build a local animal shelter!   We were able to pay CASH for this purchase due to our generous donors and careful planning and fundraising efforts.   We are currently exploring a phased approach to building that will meet our needs for years to come, focusing on sustainability and capacity building.

Our purpose:

• to help lost pets reunite with their families and to rescue pets from neglect or harm

•  to support foster programs and volunteer efforts to help pets find caring homes 

•   to help pets live healthier lives through education, spay/neuter programs, and veterinary care 

•     to partner with local municipalities, other rescue groups, and the public to accomplish our goals
