"We may need Cantus more than ever."

Star Tribune, December 11, 2020

Throughout the ongoing pandemic, your generosity has kept Cantus singing.

During a period of relatively little new choral content, Cantus released six all-new online programs in the 2020-21 season that reached audiences across all 50 states and seven countries. To accomplish this, the ensemble members would quarantine, complete COVID-19 testing, and then rehearse and record together in strict isolation. The resultant programs were offered on a pay-what-you-can basis and resonated with audiences and critics alike. The Star Tribune commented on how "the sheer quality of singing somehow melted the barriers of online communication" when it named Cantus as a 2020 Artist of the Year

Despite the challenges, Cantus' 2021-22 season is one of celebration and collaboration: six all-new subscription programs, collaborations with Chanticleer and the Bach Society of Minnesota, and the long-awaited silver anniversary gala that brings together singers past and present. To accommodate audiences and expand access, Cantus has embraced a hybrid model that combines in-person concerts and pay-what-you-can online access. Reaffirming its commitment to fostering a future for ensemble singing, Cantus has resumed its award-winning High School Residency program and teamed with MPR's Class Notes program to serve students statewide.

However, we need your help. Revenue from national tours has been slow to rebound, and online concerts – while successful – tend to generate less revenue than in-person performances. Meanwhile, Cantus remains one of only two vocal chamber ensembles in the United States to employ its artists as full-time professionals, allowing the ensemble to offer such an ambitious mix of thoughtful programming, education outreach, media initiatives, and recording. Simply put, your support makes our work possible in classrooms and concert halls.

Will you please help to keep Cantus singing?
