"... the main hallmark of the Cantus sound has always been sheer quality, and an unbroken belief in the special way that vocal music has of warming and invigorating the human spirit."
– Star Tribune, June 28, 2020
Despite the ongoing pandemic, Cantus’ singers continue to work hard, finding creative ways to make music and advance the organization’s mission in this unsettled time. In fact, the ensemble’s two online concerts this fall have reached thousands of listeners across 41 states – and we’re looking forward to sharing an all-new “Christmas with Cantus” program with you next month. More than ever, we want our music to offer moments of thoughtful respite and reflection, and so we are making tickets to these online concerts as accessible as possible through a pay-what-you-can model.
Offstage, Cantus continues to foster a future for ensemble singing through its work with students – now offered through Zoom master classes – and through our Young & Emerging Composer Competition. Cantus also continues to prioritize accessibility, and the ensemble recorded what became known as the “COVID-19 Sessions” in mid-March, as the pandemic arrived in Minnesota, as a gift to our community. The first release in this series, “Finlandia,” garnered more than 1 million views on social media and captured the attention of British record label Signum, which is now handling global digital distribution of this project.
However, we respectfully request your help to support the ensemble’s work now – and to emerge from this storm as a strong, distinctive leader in choral music. Cantus is one of only two full-time vocal ensembles in the country, and the revenue gap created by the cancellation or postponement of in-person concerts, both locally and nationally, has made philanthropy more essential to the organization’s stability than ever before.
Will you please help to keep Cantus singing?
As we conclude our 25th year, we are profoundly grateful for your investment in our mission and our music, especially during such a challenging time. Thank you for helping to keep Cantus singing.
