A Seasonal Day Camp that Provides Hands-On Agricultural Experiences

Camp Butterscotch is a seasonal day camp that specializes in individualized experiences with agriculture for all ages and ability levels. We focus on small group outings and tailor all activities for each groups' special needs. All campers have the opportunity to meet farm animals one-on-one, learn about tractors and other agricultural equipment, and investigate our sensory garden.
The co-founders of Camp Butterscotch are teachers for the Blind and Visually Impaired who wanted to help provide a place in agriculture for people with disabilities to have one-on-one time with agricultural concepts such as experiences with farm animals, gardening, agricultural equipment, and learning about the important role farming has in day to day life. Many people need extra time to explore with their hands and other senses that large group facilities can't provide.
One young camper visited with her family where they enjoyed meeting the animals and took home a tomato plant from the farm to grow at home. The mother said that this camp experience was the first time the young girl would touch anything like the sheep, rabbits, goats, and chickens. She also helped plant the tomato plant to take home and helped water the sensory garden (which was also a first for the mother to see). These are experiences many kids and families take for granted and Camp Butterscotch wants to help provide the access for all ages and abilities to learn like this little camper. Because of experiences like these, this family has made real-life connections to agriculture in which the family (especially the young girl) can pull from for the rest of their lives.
