Computer Science in BPS

In Bloomington Public Schools, we believe every student should have the opportunity to create with technology—not just consume it. Our K–12 Computer Science program opens doors for students to explore how computers, data, and human creativity intersect to solve real-world problems.

From the earliest grades, students learn to think computationally, breaking problems into smaller steps, recognizing patterns, and designing solutions. In our elementary schools, computer science means exploring creativity and problem-solving through coding, design, and storytelling. In middle and high school, students dive deeper into coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, and data science, connecting these skills to real careers in Minnesota’s growing technology and manufacturing sectors.

Computer science is about more than writing code. It’s about collaboration, innovation, and understanding how technology shapes our world. Our students learn to design apps that help their communities, build robots that perform complex tasks, and debate the ethics of AI, all while developing persistence, teamwork, and critical-thinking skills.
