Ballet Co. Laboratory

A nonprofit organization

At Ballet Co.Laboratory, we believe our supporters deserve transparency—not only about what we do, but also about why we do it. As a patron of the arts, you've probably heard that fundraising is an essential part of an arts organization's success. But do you really know why? Donations are not simply helpful to nonprofit dance organizations; they are essential to ensuring professional dance programming continues to exist. Today, we share with you the answers to the questions we hear time and again...

Ticket sales cover only 22% of our annual budget. While this may seem surprising, it is the reality for most arts organizations across the country. Ticket sales alone cannot sustain the true cost of creating and presenting dance.

Ticket and tuition prices would need to increase by 60% to cover yearly expenses if we relied solely on income from classes and shows. This would make dance experiences less accessible to many in our community.

Not one dollar goes without purpose.
Each year, our budget is dedicated to what matters most: 65% to artistic wages, 20% to studio space/utilities, and 15% to production expenses.

Although facts and figures can't stir the soul as a dance work can, they do help tell the story of why nonprofit arts organizations rely on community support. Help be part of our answer to the question, "How do the arts survive?" by showing Ballet Co.Laboratory your support through a tax-deductible donation.

Thank you for believing in the "why" behind our work. With your support, professional artists will be able to make a living, students will have a home to learn, audiences will have a place to gather, and dance experience will remain in Minnesota.

A cornerstone of Ballet Co.Laboratory’s work is creating new ballets that transcend stereotypes, reimagine gender roles, & highlight representation in every sense. Curious as to what it takes to bring a ballet from the studio to the stage? Check out this video following the creation of last season’s An American in Paris.
