Backyard Wishes is a local  501(c)3) non-profit designed to help children within the Waconia 110 school district. We help pay for things that go beyond life’s necessities; we help a child to belong to a team, to thrive in their talent and to feel the self esteem that comes along with doing something you love. Our history is simple….A local stay at home mom who became an unwilling “empty nester” thought of a way to help children in the Waconia area whose family may have fallen on hard times. She wanted these children to still be able to; play sports, take dance, take a guitar lesson; or have presents under the tree at Christmas or gifts a Hanukkah. And from this, “backyard wishes” was formed. Now a group of nine individuals with local roots makeup the board of backyard wishes. Students receiving our assistance must be referred to us by the public school administrators/teachers.  The administrators/teachers know where the need is and who might benefit most from “backyard wishes” assistance. Our organization is one hundred percent volunteer, and our goal is to always make a positive influence in a child’s life. We believe that together we can change a child’s life just a little, and it can last a lifetime.
