Help Support LGBTQ Homeless Youth in Our Community by Donating to Arise Project
Did you know that on any given night in Minnesota, 2,500 youth are without shelter? Or that up to 40 percent of young people experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ? Many of these young people face compounding challenges because of their age, gender, sexuality and race.
In the greater Twin Cities region, in both urban and suburban areas, there are only 93 shelter beds available for youth, and only two specifically allocated for LGBTQ homeless youth.
What is the Impact of Arise Project?
Arise Project was established by Greater Twin Cities United Way to bring changemakers together to support the lives of LGBTQ homeless youth. Since 2011, Arise Project has raised over a million dollars for LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness and helped connect over 1600 of them to resources.
Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Arise Project grants have helped:
- Launch new LGBTQ support groups at agencies like YouthLink
- Fund LGBTQ-focused staffers and case workers at agencies like Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota
- Helping pay for staffing costs for a drop-in center case manager, as well volunteer and staff trainings for working with LGBTQ youth at Oasis for Youth
- Expand an LGBTQ host home program at Avenues for Youth
- Support the nation’s only LGBTQ-inclusive transitional housing program at The Link
Why Invest in Arise Project?
Greater Twin Cities United Way’s Arise Project envisions a Minnesota where all youth, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, have the support and resources they need to reach their full potential.
You can help. Donate to Arise Project on Give OUT Day (June 30, 2021) or anytime during the month of June to help support the lives LGBTQ homeless youth right here in our community.
