Did you know that on any given night in Minnesota, 2,500 youth are without shelter? Or that up to 40 percent of young people experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ? Many of these young people face compounding challenges because of their age, gender, sexuality and race.
In the greater Twin Cities region, in both urban and suburban areas, there are only 93 shelter beds available for youth, and only two specifically allocated for LGBTQ homeless youth.
Arise Project was established by Greater Twin Cities United Way to bring changemakers together to support the lives of LGBTQ homeless youth. Since 2011, Arise Project has raised over a million dollars for LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness and helped connect over 1600 of them to resources.
Greater Twin Cities United Way’s Arise Project envisions a Minnesota where all youth, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, have the support and resources they need to reach their full potential.
You can help. Donate to Arise Project on Give OUT Day (June 30, 2021) or anytime during the month of June to help support the lives LGBTQ homeless youth right here in our community.
