$10,000 Goal

Started in 1969 as a jobs training program for local youth during the War on Poverty, Appalshop is now in its fifth decade using cultural organizing and place-based media, arts, and education to advance social justice, environmental sustainability, and economic development.

Appalshop’s  documentary film division, community radio station, youth media project, record label, archive, and theater company have created the largest single body of work documenting the history and culture of Appalachia. These successes have been made possible in large part by critical support from committed people such as yourself, who know the real, tangible impacts of community-based media production and training in underserved rural communities, particulary in the coalfields of central Appalachia.

Your financial contribution plays a crucial role in supporting innovative year-round arts, media & educational programming right here in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, and we'd like to ask for your support on this year's Kentucky Gives Day on April 9th.

For over 50 years, Appalshop has been advancing community media in eastern Kentucky and across the central Appalachian region, working with people to help them tell their own stories and realize their vision for their communities. Appalshop continues to cover subjects and explore evolving issues of importance to Appalachia, sharing stories across county lines and across the world through an ever-expanding range of media and disciplines.

We hope you'll continue to support this critical work by making a donation to Appalshop today. And help us spread the word!
