$500 Goal

The Lake Superior Rose Society began in 1996.  Each year the Society, in cooperation with the city of Duluth Parks Maintenance, hosts Rose Fest at Leif Erikson Rose Garden, where classes on selecting, growing, and arranging roses are provided free to the public.  Members of the Society grow specially selected varieties of roses to sell to the public each May at the annual Plant Sale, along with helpful books and all-natural fertilizer for use on roses.  Monthly meeting bring locally and nationally-know speakers to share knowledge of growing roses successfully.

The members of the Society are committed to supporting Duluth's Leif Erikson Rose Garden.  They volunteer regularly at the garden remove spent blooms in the summer months, and protecting the roses against winter cold in October.  They contribute financially to the garden with donations and by securing grant funds for larger garden improvements.  Recent examples are the Lakeside rose bed of disease-resistant hardy roses, signage throughout the garden, and widely distributed brochures on growing roses at Leif Erikson Rose Garden.
