The Minnesota Art Therapy Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of art therapy practice.

According to the American Art Therapy Association, Art therapy is defined as the therapeutic use of art making, within a professional relationship by people who experience illness, trauma or challenges in living and by people who seek personal development. Through creating art and reflecting on the art products and processes, people can increase awareness of self and others, cope with symptoms, stress and traumatic experiences, enhance cognitive abilities, and enjoy the life affirming pleasures of making art.

Essentially, art therapy is based on the idea that the creative process of art making is healing and life enhancing and is a form of nonverbal communication of thoughts and feelings.

Your donations will go towards the following, but not limited to:

  • Public awareness of the healing power of art therapy
  • Creating a Licensure for Art Therapists in Minnesota
  • Education, including workshops, symposiums, and conferences; including social justice and anti-racism awareness and training
  • Community outreach and projects
  • Website and other communication fees
  • Participating with NAMI and Minnesota Coalition for the Arts in legislative efforts and community access

Thank you so much for your support of our work that reaches and heals the lives of many in our community!
