Aitkin County Historical Society

The Aitkin County Historical Society operates two museums: the Depot Museum and the Log Museum. Both provide ample opportunities to glimpse Aitkin County's past.  In addition we maintain a storage facility for artifacts not currently on display.  We also have our original Log Cabin built in 1950 currently located on the Aitkin County Fair grounds.  It is the 2nd oldest building in the state of Minnesota that was built especially for use by a historical society.

The Depot Museum is housed in the historic 1916 Northern Pacific Depot. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum features a rotating schedule of exhibits regarding the heritage of Aitkin County.

Fifty years of riverboating on the upper Mississippi, Native American culture, railroads and unique artifacts fill our exhibit halls. A museum store offers gifts and publications pertaining to area history.
