Over 55 people in Aitkin County are going to sleep in Habitat for Humanity homes tonight.
Calls come into the office every day:
"The snow is coming through our roof."
"Our windows are so drafty a glass of water would freeze in the bedroom."
"Their deck is falling apart and they can't get in and out of their home and they are in a walker and a wheelchair."
Affordable housing is a matter of conscience for all people and a great need in Aitkin County. Through building a new home every two years, Habitat endeavors to provide housing for working families who struggle with low wages to live in substandard rental property.
But, also, Habitat hears stories of people who own their homes who have no running water, no flushing toilets, no decent roof, no heating system.... the list goes on and on. While we can't help everyone, we are reaching out to help as many folks as we can with A Brush with Kindness project. Partnering with other agencies or the homeowner who provides the materials, our Habitat crew builds ramps and steps for people, replaces doors and windows, paints and helps the family in many ways to have a decent and affordable home.
Habitat reaches out to partner with community organizations, individuals and churches.
Won't you help people sleep soundly in their own homes tonight with a non-leaky roof over their heads, windows that keep out the cold, toilets that flush and faucets that produce water? Partner with us today to build in Aitkin in 2020.
